OUTWARD DISCIPLINE

COMPASSION

The practice of caring for others so that they encounter the healing presence and love of God through you.

IDEAS FOR PRACTICE

  • This practice involves allowing yourself to be moved (like Jesus - Mark 1:41) to respond to those who suffer, struggle, and are oppressed. This means you need to put yourself in close proximity with the oppressed, the suffering, the poor, the struggling, the sick, the hurting, etc. Look for opportunities to spend time with people in need, and allow God to use you to be an agent of encouragement, support, love, and healing.

  • Read or listen to the local news as a way of scanning for opportunities to respond with compassion to the brokenness, injustice, and needs within your own community Consider volunteering regularly with a local community service organization (ask us for suggestions if you need them)

  • Consider starting an Outpost to respond with compassion to a specific need or injustice. (For example, the Wrap-Around Outpost was birthed out of a compassionate response to a local need.)

  • Make a commitment to respond as often as you are able to meal train requests and various needs posted in the Sanctuary Church Community Board on facebook

  • Offer rides to those who can’t drive or have no car

  • Consider joining the Needs Ministry Team
