FASTING

 

The practice of abstaining from something good - typically food, but could be anything you depend on - for the purposes of increasing our longing for, and dependence on, God, and for specific intercessory work.

IDEAS FOR PRACTICE

  • Remember that fasting without prayer is just a diet. Prepare for your fast by planning how you will increase your prayer life during the fast, and deciding on any specific intercessory burdens you will be praying for.

  • Choose what to fast from, and for how long. If you’ve never done a food fast before, we encourage you to start small (1-3 days) before moving to longer periods.

  • Some ideas to consider:

    • 24hr fast / 3-day fast / 7-day fast / 14-day fast

    • Lunch fast – fast from lunch each day for a set period of time

    • Daniel fast - eat only unprocessed fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and water for a set period of time (no animal products, sweeteners, processed foods, or beverages other than water)

    • Media fast - give up all media
